That's just crazy! Love it! We're reading the Skeleton book on your booklist and I think it's a great series!
Thanks...I think! Hope we find the time to get it mostly done. But I think taking a whole month to do it will help!
Hi Shannon,
I'm gonna come clean as a blog lurker. I too have a 5 year old son that just started extended day at his montessori school. He was at this same school for a half day last year, so I essentially did homeschool stuff when he came home. We're still doing reading, math etc that is building on what he is working on at school, but I'm worried that branching out on other topics will be too much. I'd love to hear how your experience goes and are you trying to follow the curriculum at your son's school or extending based on his needs?
Sorry that was a little long winded.
Kelly
Kelly,
You should see the length of some of the comments I leave!
Anyway, I am not following his class topics because they are "fluffy" and mostly things we have already done. They actually are using Core Knowledge, which I love but I already used with him. We did the preschool core knowledge (all of it!) in the 3 weeks we had the book from the library. We did not go into too much depth but did not really need to either. We have also done most of the K core knowledge. I think it will be okay that he is repeating it with his class because they will not do it the same as we did.
So...I guess, I am extending based on his needs and what I think they are falling short on and things I feel he will be interested in.
For example, he is really into the human body stuff right now so...follow the child! Hope that helps! Feel free to comment whenever you want...NO PRESSURE!
I meant crazy in a good way. :) Like wow!
Yeah...I knew! I was just amused!
Thanks Shannon, I completely understand. I think since my son is at a montessori school, I may just follow along with his curriculm and extended it where I think he will enjoy. I've always enjoyed your science plans as I think I'm raising a little science geek. I blush a little when ever he explains buoyancy to anyone-especially his teacher during her sink/float presentation. I'm sure your son's teachers are amazed with him (and you).
thanks again,
Kelly
Thanks Kelly!
I think I am just trying to make up for my pathetic education. I know nothing about science, history, and geography. Only what I learned with Josh! Gotta do better for them, ya know?
